‘Tis the Season to Deck the Halls

Christmas lights, flannel, pine cones, holiday scented candles…. I live for it all. When it comes to holiday decor we definitely don’t hold back. Our apartment is on the smaller side (I prefer cozy – ha!) so it starts to feel very festive here once we break out the decorations.

This is our second year with a real tree and I don’t think we will ever revert back to a fake one. We have a garden center a little more than a block away from our apartment so it’s become tradition to bundle up and walk there. After picking out the perfect tree, we put it over our shoulders and carry it home lumberjack style. We get tons of looks from people passing by but honestly, that just adds to the fun of it. We keep our tree pretty simple with minimal ornaments and let the colored lights do the talking.

We have a few sentimental ornaments that we’ve built up over the years, including some gorgeous ones from Gumps in San Francisco. One of my favorites has to be our little Tri-Colored Cavalier who looks exactly like our pup Oliver!

This floating shelf in our kitchen is a recent addition, and it proudly showcases these cute little Greek coffee cups that were passed along to us by Tasso’s grandmother who recently passed. A flannel Noel sign, pine cone, and snow dusted tree add a touch of Christmas to this special display.

We are candle obsessed over here and the Fresh Balsam scent from Bath & Body Works smells amazing. It’s one of our favorites.

These adorable flannel creatures we got from Target add the perfect touch of whimsy to our winter scene.

I’m obsessed with this gift wrap and ribbon from the Hearth & Hand collection at Target. I find myself gravitating towards black and white check patterns lately so this was the obvious choice. I’ll also be adding some fresh pine leaves to my gifts this year – I think they make the perfect topper, and the fresh pine scent is just an added bonus!

It’s also time to break out the holiday mugs! (We take our coffee and tea pretty seriously around here). This Nutcracker tea mug from David’s Tea is one of my favorites. I grew up dancing in the Nutcracker so I’ll always have a special love for them. I got it a couple years back, but they always have such cute designs every season.

With each year, I feel like our Christmas decor and style evolves. We started off with most of these items, but it’s always fun to add in a few new things here and there and play around with how to display it all.

What are your favorite holiday decorations and traditions? I’d love to hear about them!
