I’ve lived in the Chicago area for most of my life, but have only been living in the actual city for about 2 and a half years now. Chicago has so much to offer…from top-notch eats, to lakefront beaches and must-see landmarks, it’s easy to fall hard for the Windy City. Slowly but surely, I’ve started to get to know my neighborhood and have developed a few favorite places along the way. There are so many more hot-spots that are on my CHI bucket list, but for now, I thought I’d share my current top 3.
First up: Bang Bang Pie & Biscuits. Seriously though guys, pie will always be a good idea. They have 2 locations, but I’ve only been to the one in Logan Square. My favorite time to visit is early fall – the start of pie season of course 😉 They have an outdoor area with picnic tables so its nice to enjoy the crispness of Autumn air while enjoying a hot coffee and a fresh slice of pie. They change their menu from time to time, but I have to say my favorite flavors are classic pumpkin and apple crumble when they’re available. If your palate leans more towards savory than sweet, they also have a variety of hearty biscuits and pot pies to choose from. Bonus: They also have pie making classes! (Heart eye emojis all around). Grab your S.O. for a date night, or invite some friends for a fun get-together at the pie shop. Choose from either the Apple Pie class or Key Lime class… can’t go wrong with either! Both are BYOB and are bound to be a good time.
If I were to take a guess, I’d say that this is Ollie’s favorite spot too 😉 If you’re a dog owner in the city, then Montrose Dog Beach is a lifesaver. They are open year round, but Ollie and I only come during the summer months (we are both babies when it comes to cold weather – haha) It’s an off-leash beach that’s clean and well-kept, so Oliver is free to run to his heart’s content, splash a bit in the water and mingle with other dogs. It’s basically Disney World for your 4-legged friend. Tasso and I will usually bring Ollie on a sunny weekend to enjoy the breeze from the lake, talk, and snap photos. I live for ‘small’ moments like these!
This is the perfect oasis for those cold winter months when you’re craving the tropics but are trapped in Chiberia until Spring Break. Packed with tropical palms and ancient ferns, The Lincoln Park Conservatory has 4 display houses: the Palm Room, Fern Room, Orchid Room, and their Show House which hosts their annual flower shows. The lush plant life here reminds me a lot of what you’d find in the Costa Rican rain forests. We went a couple years ago now, but those rain forests are absolutely breathtaking! I will never forget it. Unfortunately, I’m not headed to CR anytime soon, so the LP Conservatory will have to do for now 😉 Oh, and did I mention that admission is free? Always a plus in my book!
What are your favorite places where you live? Any other gems I should check out in the Chicago? Let me know in the comments! 🙂
